“Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet” – Roger Miller

A few years ago, Popular Photography ran a “Backstory” piece on my Watercolors series of images. At the time I was represented by IN Transit Images, who had sent some photographs to Popular Photography for review and consideration. They replied by contacting me for a mini-interview that they published alongside an image. These images are always interesting to shoot. I tend to look for things that are not obvious or force the viewer to stop and look, to figure out what they are seeing. The interplay of the reflections of architecture and figures in the wet streets creates unusual scenarios that look more like something created by a painters brush work, than a camera. Sometimes the images look surreal while others at times look like early cubist works.
Watercolors to Water World

I spoke with writer Lori Fredrickson for over a half hour, discussing the Watercolors series of images and how I initially started to take them, on one of my early trips to Prague. The series has since expanded including several different cities – essentially, anyplace that greets me with inclement weather, I respond by donning my rain gear and heading out with camera in hand. Revenge can be sweet!
