Polaroids : Test Shots
Polaroids : During the film years, shooting a test shot with a Polaroid was the norm on editorial and commercial assignments, to check everything from lighting, exposure, composition, a models clothes, makeup and hair – a bit like an insurance policy to make sure everything was working properly. It helped alleviate any anxiety while waiting for film to return from the lab! When shooting with a 4X5 camera for companies such as Birks or Head & Shoulders Shampoo or Moon Audio, a Polaroid helped to confirm that images were critically focused. The Polaroid prints were about 3.25″ X 4.25″ or 8.5 X 11cm and made for great souvenirs for everyone on set. Most importantly they were useful reminder when the Polaroids were placed in zip-lock bags along with the related rolls of film.
